NAF (Nonappropriated Funds) describes federal employment that is available not only at U.S. Air Force bases around the world but with other services as well. Although NAF positions are federal jobs, they differ from federal civil service positions, as NAF employees are paid from self-generated funds by Air Force clubs, golf courses and other activities and locations where NAF employee work. Did you know, Regular category NAF employees enjoy benefits similar to GS employees, such as annual leave, sick leave, retirement, 401k, health and life insurance, workers compensation, overtime and holiday pay.
All U.S. citizens, except those determined to have ordinarily resident status in the host country. U.S. dependents must have an Official Passport, Visa, Soggiorno and be listed on the sponsor’s orders or command sponsorship letter. Non U.S. citizen family members of a military or civilian sponsor stationed at Aviano may be considered for NAF employment under U.S. conditions if:
- Dependent is a citizen of a NATO country:
Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Rep, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
- Dependent must be listed on the sponsor’s orders or command sponsorship letter.
U.S. enlisted personnel may be hired as NAF employees during their non-duty hours.
